VISIT TO ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA.
As in the past, we have received an invitation from The Jewish Community of Orange County, California, to send 8 representatives of our school for a visit of almost two weeks. (1 – 12/12/05) These representatives will serve as Good Will Ambassadors and will be representing Israel as well as Leyada.
Requirements.
Student representatives will be chosen according to the following criteria:
- Students must be fluent in English. Students will be expected to lead discussions and /or lecture in English, and will meet audiences raging in age from grade school to adults. Students must have a grade of at least 85 in English.
- Students must have a sufficiently good record to allow him or her to miss two weeks of classes.
- Applicants should be active in youth movements or other social activities which contribute to the social good. (You may be asked to lead an activity with school children of different ages.)
- The Jewish Community of Orange County wants to host students who will benefit from a new experience while visiting Orange County. Thus preference will be given to students who have not spent long periods abroad, and have not experienced previous delegations.
- Students who have been hosted in Orange County must be prepared to reciprocate here in Israel.
- Students who are chosen must be prepared to attend preparatory meetings after school hours. Attendance of ALL of these meetings is compulsory, and the lack of attendance may lead to disqualification.
- Students applying should be aware of the fact that participants will be housed with families in Orange County on an individual basis.
Screening Procedure
- Students interested in being chosen will be asked to write a business letter in class, under the guidance of their English teachers, and to fill out an application form. Students who took the English Bagrut exam last year must check with their classmates for the exact date.
- Applicants will be interviewed by a selection of Home-room teachers, English teachers, and members of the administration on a date to be announced.
